About the record:
Usha Iyer's Scotch & Soda is a great snapshot of the jazz and pop sound coming out of India in the late 1960s. She takes on a really fun mix of well-known English-language songs, from Fever and Big Spender to California Dreaming, Sunny and A Taste of Honey. Her voice has plenty of character, and the record has that lively club and lounge feel that makes these old Indian jazz LPs so enjoyable to put on.
Released in 1969 on Odeon, this is a particularly fun one for collectors of Indian jazz, vocal records and vintage English-language recordings. It feels very much like a record from its era without sounding overly polished or distant.
