About the record:
Music For An Arabian Night is a beautiful 1959 Parlophone orchestral record from Ron Goodwin, built around Lebanese folk melodies and arranged in his very distinctive style. The music has a warm, colourful sound, with strings, flutes, mandolins, guitar, harp, piano and plenty of Eastern percussion giving the arrangements their character.
There is something really charming about this record. It has that classic late 50s orchestral easy-listening sound, but the Lebanese melodies make it feel quite different from the usual British and American lounge records of the period. Windows Of The East, Bazaar, Old Beirut and The Cedars Of Lebanon are especially atmospheric.
A great vintage Parlophone LP for collectors of orchestral, easy listening and Middle Eastern influenced records.
